Fundraising Dinners
Each
year the Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD) runs a number of
special dinner events involving prominent speakers from the worlds of
politics, journalism, academia, and public life whose talks are tied to
themes involving democracy. These dinner talks and dinner panels,
which are intended to inform the Orange County community on topics of
major public interest, are a central part of CSD's mission of
community outreach. The dinners are also used to raise money for the
Jack and Suzie Peltason Graduate Democracy Fellowship Endowment and
other sources of funding for graduate students in the Departments of
Political Science, Sociology, and Economics who are doing research
on topics related to democracy. Topics studied by CSD Democracy Fellows
include viable transitions to democracy in nations previously
under dictatorial or totalitarian rule, the civic inclusion of minority
community members, democracy in the workplace, religion and
public life, stockholder control of corporations, constitutional
design, and institutional reform.
Charges for CSD
special dinners range from $50 to $250 per person, depending
upon the prominence of the speaker(s) and the level of community
interest. Silver Level dinner events are priced from $50-$100
per dinner ticket; Gold level dinner events are $150 per
ticket. Platinum level events are $200-$250 per ticket.
Contributions to the UCI Foundation -CSD for tickets to these dinners
may be tax deductible.
