Religion, Media, and Politics Lecture
This lecture series focuses on how religion and faith are expressed in public life as part of the democratic process, and how the press covers religion. It is coordinated by Prof. Stephen Burgard, a former member of the Los Angeles Times editorial board, and now Director of the School of Journalism at Northeastern Univ. in Boston. Prof. Burgard has, for several years, been a visiting researcher at CSD during annual winter quarter appointments. The series was kicked off in 2008 by A Chancellor's Distinguished Lecture by Philip Bennett, then Managing Editor of the Washington Post on the challenges of press coverage of Islam, followed by a dinner panel on religion and voting in the 2008 election. Presentations at UCI and at Northeastern University provide the basis for a forthcoming edited volume Faith, Politics & Press In Our Perilous Times, to be published by Kendall/Hunt in the fall of 2010.PREVIOUS RELIGION AND POLITICS LECTURES
