Congratulations to Sociologist Jen’nan Ghazal Read, who recived a $144,000 grant from the Russell Sage Foundation to continue her study of patterns of political integration of Muslim-Americans. Her current project, "Doubly Disenfranchised," examines how race and ethnicity shapes Muslim political engagement.

Seven out of Eight of the most cited UCI political scientists are CSD Faculty Fellows:

Using citation counts over the course of a scholar’s lifetime of research as a measure of impact and contribution to political science, a recently released study ranks eight UCI political science professors in the top 400 in their field. Of these, seven are faculty in the Center for the Study of Democracy: Russell Dalton, Martha Feldman, Bernard Grofman, Helen Ingram, Dorothy Solinger, Rein Taagepera and Martin Wattenberg. Congratulations to Nhu-Ngoc Ong, who has been awarded a President's Dissertation Year Fellowship for 2006-07 by the Office of Graduate Studies.

Congratulations to Sociologist Jen’nan Ghazal Read, whose research has contributed to the understanding of U.S. Muslims and Arab-Americans. She has been named a 2006 Carnegie Scholar by the Carnegie Corporation of New York. Read is one of just 20 researchers from across the country, all focusing on Islamic issues in the modern world, to win the two-year, $100,000 research prize.

Congratulations to Natalie Masuoka, recipient of the 2006 Ted Robinson Award, granted in recognition of graduate research in minority politics, by the Southwestern Political Science Association.
Congratulations to Jack Peltason, the 16th President of the University of California (1992-1995) and Chair of the CSD Leadership Council, who received the Clark Kerr Medal for Distinguished Leadership in Higher Education by the Berkeley Division of the Academic Senate in a ceremony on the Berkeley campus on November 8th.
